Dear All Work is going well at the shop, we are now around half way through the building work, and well on target for opening. Thanks to all the local sources we used to advertise our jobs we now have a full team including 2 fantastic cooks both of whom live in Nunhead, Jassy Davis who writes the popular food blog http://ginandcrumpets.com/ & Sylvia of http://bighungryfamily.blogspot.co.uk/ To keep you informed here are a few more pictures of the shop taking shape https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.232472440129347.54996.190055707704354&type=1 & dont forget you can also follow us @DishSE15 on Twitter. Look forward to opening our doors very soon now. All of us at The Dish & the Spoon.
Shona, it looks fantastic! Hope everything stays on track and you open on time. I'll bet it still feels strange saying, "all of us at the Dish and the Spoon" It's really happening. Anymore problems from Grafitti?
why not? why do you care to reply? it's a business, after all. if you don't want people to create multiple threads in different areas, how can businesses be allowed to 'spam' with multiple threads in the same section?
The old one's been locked so will fall down the list. A new one has been set up because this is shortly to become an active business, rather than a potential project. This thread is for discussion of the Dish and the Spoon. Any more questions about mod policies, please feel free to contact me direct.
It is indeed. We are nearly there. The builders have done such a good job, really impressed with their hard work. Hope to see you on Tuesday Mugglesworth. And everyone else that may be around and able to pop in.
I've really enjoyed watching the progress this week, it really does look great. Can't wait to come in for a coffee on Tuesday, what time will you be open? (I live directly opposite, if you spot me having a nose from my window, wave!)
Hi Lianne We'll open from 7.30 on Tuesday, Im glad you've enjoyed watching the progress. It has come together very quickly at the end. Sign should go up in the morning. Will look forward to meeting you.
Hi All We had the most amazing weekend with our last minute launch, thanks so much to all who came and supported over Sunday and today. It was incredible to see so many of you, and really feel like the shop is something you want in your community. We were understandably a bit wobbly with service this weekend, so thank you to all for your patience with early hiccups. Over the course of the week improvements/things happening: From tomorrow, we'll be open 7.30am -4pm (Tuesday-Friday) & 8am-5pm Saturday, 8am-4pm Sunday (Monday closed) doing a range of pastries, cakes, scones, granola, sandwiches etc. We'll also be selling daily bread from Paul Rhodes Bakery in Greenwich, if there is a loaf you particularly like please let us know so we can add it to our bread order, the day before. As we get closer to the weekend, our deli counter will be properly open. We stock only British Cheeses, with a selection of territorials from all over the UK. Some of you tried the Keens cheddar in sandwiches this weekend, a lovely West Country Traditional Cheddar, we also stock Montgomery from the same region, so come and have a look. On the deli meat side, we are stocked by John Doig of Moons Green Charcuterie based in the Isle of Oxney, Kent. John produces his English Hams, such as the current one in our counter, served off the bone, smothered in a whiskey & marmalade glaze, as well as his take on the Continental favorites, Sausisson, and Chorizo. At the moment we have a Saucisson with Fennel, and one with hazlenut, both delicious. If you like spicer meats, the Chorizo Picante & Beer Sticks are both quite powerful. We are also stocking Kent Crisps, with flavours including Oyster & Vinegar, & Ashmore Cheese, produced by Quex Foods, on the north coast of Kent, near Whitstable. Some of you will have already tried the Breckland Orchard pops we have in the chiller, the Cloudy Lemonade seems to be your current favourite. Events Coming up soon we have: This Thursday 10.15 - Vanessa Woolf a professional storyteller, coming in to do a 30 minute childrens contemporary story time. Her sessions include, musical instruments, puppets, and lots of song & movement. Perfect for Under 5s, sessions cost £5 per family (as many children per ticket as you like) On Friday 18th we have Lawrence of Dark Fluid Coffee Roasters, coming in during the afternoon (time TBC) to conduct a tasting of some interesting coffee blends, if you'd like to be part of that please let us know, this is a free event, so come along and learn more about where the beans you are tasting at The Dish & the Spoon come from. And we will also be hosting several of the Free Film Festival Screenings during September, although thats a way off yet. Just to confirm, we do also welcome well behaved dogs, and have also met several lovely hounds this weekend. Many thanks The Dish and the Spoon
Hello Mustard We will have nibbles at the tasting event, we are going to do a pairing with each coffee, so a food item that most compliments the natural profile of the coffee. Coffee, like wine, or chocolate, has a lot of flavours within its profile, so if its a particularly orangey coffee, the kitchen would pair with something to highlight that, etc. Our kitchen team have a wide range of dishes planned, however it is very early days, and as I'm sure you can imagine we are just finding our feet, in what has been an extremely busy opening period. We have also struggled having opened on a bank holiday weekend as a lot of our stock did not turn up in time (cutlery and plates included, thanks so much to all who have enjoyed our Ikea childrens cutlery this week so far, our real stuff arrived tonight!) Soon we will be doing daily soup, have hot dishes such as veggie chilli and chicken tagine, plus lovely fresh salads, coming in gradually over the coming weeks/months. Until then we hope to keep you all stocked up with great coffee, thick cut toasties, & deli goodness... Thanks for all the support shown so far, and look forward to serving you all again soon. The Dish and the Spoon Team
Hello All Tomorrow it will be a month since we opened, the time has flown by. Its been great to meet so many locals and hear all the feedback on what people like and would like to see more of. Some things to just mention, we are doing daily bread sales. If there is something you would particularly like to see us selling please pop in and let us know, we can reserve bread for you as well. We've been approached by a couple of local groups looking for premises to meet in already, and are very open to this idea, please let us know what you'd like to see happening during the week and when. We are experimenting at the moment with early opening, 7.30 onwards during the week, to serve commuter coffee and pastry needs. Thank you very much for all custom so far.
Tommorow at 10.15 we will have Vanessa of London Dreamtime with us for childrens storytime, suitable for all Under 5s. Vanessa uses a mixture of story, song, rhyme & puppetry to tell her tales. Cost of £5 per family, you can bring however many children for that charge. See you then we hope. http://www.londondreamtime.com/London_Storyteller.html
