Test run of the Olympic road race, 14th August

    This just landed in my inbox from one of my workmates...

    The test run of the Olympic road race takes place on Sunday 14 August.

    Lots of the Tour de France riders will be taking part. 129 miles. Route here:

    It looks like some of Box Hill is closed unless you have a wrist band....

    However lots of other places, notably Richmond Park and Bushy Park will be open.

    For those with children it can be quite a spectacle to watch (albeit relatively brief!) and if the sun is out could be worth a picnic etc.

    Not quite (not even nearly) the Olympic route but if you fancy a cycle ride around London yourself rather than (as well as) watching the pros there's the London Sportive aka the Ride Around London.

    It's on on Sunday 25th September 2011 and there are 115 mile and 60 mile options and it does take in a lot of Olympic landmarks (goes from Herne Hill Velodrome to Box Hill along the North Downs, through Windsor Great Park to the Lee Valley Whitewater Centre via the Chilterns). Entry fee is £28 pounds.
