Campaign to save Lewisham Southwark College launch meeting
Hi South East Londoners letting you know about this meeting to save a local institution.

Edited - There's been a change of venue
    Friday 20th March
the meeting will be upstairs in
The Amersham Arms (opposite New Cross station).

25% staff cuts have been announced at Lewisham Southwark College, with a further 24% cut to adult education in the next year. By 2020 there will be no more adult provision in Further education if we don't do something now.

This is the first campaign group meeting and we need your help to oppose these cuts and save lifelong learning. Please come along to support and discuss how we can campaign against the destruction of the college.

For further information, please email: uculesoco@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you there.

    Update
The Save Lewisham & Southwark College campaign met on Friday* and have agreed an urgent action, early
Tuesday evening; a lobby of the college's governors who'll be meeting at 5.30pm

If you have half an hour to give, please be there.
    Time & duration: 5.00 -5.30pm
What: Signs, saying what Further Education, means & or has meant to you.

Further education offers a second chance for people who haven't had a conventional educational path, a chance to retrain for those who want to change their life, so to take it away or threaten it through cuts is reducing people's life chances & autonomy. Education is not simply cost it is an investment.

*A follow up meeting will take place on Friday 27th March, 6.30pm, upstairs at the Amersham Arms.
The campaign has a slogan - "Spread the knowledge, Keep our college"

Here's video regarding the occupation of the College
Occupation is a protest tactic normally seen in Russell Group institutions, for a further education institution in Peckham to do this is significant.

A year and a half since we last posted here about this campaign. What's happened to the local educational institution, with campuses in Brockley, Deptford, & the borough of Southwark? Well it might well have a campus in Newcastle, yes really.

Huge changes in Further Education are on the way due to government "Area Reviews"; lots of colleges in London are merging and this will undoubtedly have an impact on students, staff and the community. Area Review for London isn't concluded yet but there is talk of this college (which is already a product of a Lewisham/Southwark merger) being merged with Lambeth or Newcastle.
