This summer will see parkrun coming to Hilly Fields. This is a free 5K (accurately measured) run held each Saturday morning at 9am : see for more information about the series of events.

There are a few of these in South London, at Crystal Palace, Dulwich and Herne Hill among other places, but it's fantastic news that there's going to be one on our doorstep in Brockley! And perfect timing, with a new cafe opening up on Hilly Fields we'll all have somewhere to grab coffee and cake afterwards.

They're looking for volunteers to help with the events. This could be setting out course markers, marshalling on the course to make sure people are going the right way or handing out tokens at the end, for people's times. If you think you could help then get in touch with Lynne Atkinson .

Hope to see some fellow runners there!

Just checking for any updates on this - really like the concept so hoping that it's still going to happen.

    Hi David,

Yes, it's definitely going to happen. We've been working out the final details of the route and are hoping to start in September. As soon as the start date's confirmed I'll post here on SE Central & hopefully it will be on Brockley Central too.

    See you there!!

    Is this now every week?

Yes, every Saturday @ 9am, starting from the cafe.

Just register at, printout your barcode and turn up and run! We have a facebook page too , join the community there.

I'm not sure we'll get 90+ runners every week but it was a fabulous turnout on Saturday. I was the one beeping barcodes at the finish - hopefully at some point I'll get to run too!

If anyone can volunteer for any of the regular roles such as timekeeping, handing out finishing tokens, beeping barcodes or simply marshalling to make sure the runners are following the course correctly you can email . Parkrun is free to everyone and relies on volunteers - just three times a year if you're a regular runner is enough to keep it all running (ahem) smoothly.
