Hilly Fields Lunch Club - Local business networking

Discussion in 'Brockley' started by Jennifer Smith, Sep 21, 2011.

  1. Do you work from home? Are you a freelancer? Are you starting up or running your own business?

I've been running my own business in Ladywell for three years. Unlike other parts of London, I've noticed there isn't a local business meet up here, yet this area is rich in talent with many people working from home or freelancing.

We're launching the Hilly Fields Lunch Club to bring together freelancers, homeworkers, and small business owners for a regular monthly informal meet-up, to:
    • support local small businesses and freelancers
    • build a network of potential collaborators amongst locally based professionals
    • provide “water cooler moments” for people without a water cooler!
The Hilly Fields Lunch Club is friendly, informal and welcoming to anyone who wants to come along. We meet at a local venue to be announced each month on the blog.

The inaugural meet-up of the club is on Friday 7th October, 12.30pm at The Ladywell Tavern, 80 Ladywell Rd, Ladywell, Lewisham, London, SE13 7HS.

  2. Join us at the Hilly Fields Lunch Club third meet-up on
    Friday 2 December
    12-2pm
at The Ladywell Tavern, 80 Ladywell Rd, SE13 7HS.
Tim Grollman, local toy designer, will give a short presentation at 12.30 on how he took the Tubie from an idea to the high street. After a commercial career at BT, Tim took advantage of early retirement to create the Tubie, a unique and patented puzzle influenced by Sudoku, where you rotate a tube to line up coloured cells. Tim will explain how he devised the game, secured a patent, and negotiated manufacturing and distribution agreements. The Tubie is now on sale under the Mensa Games brand, in Argos, Debenhams, WH Smith, and Sainsburys.

We’ll be on the right of the bar.
Order lunch at the bar as you arrive, food will be served at 12.45.

    Speed networking!
To facilitate some serious networking, Richard Smith will be hosting a speed-networking session before lunch. Everyone will have 30 seconds to introduce themselves to their networking partner, and a further 2 minutes to explore potential business opportunities. Then the bell rings, and you move on to your next partner.
This is a focused, efficient and fun way to meet lots of other local businesses – ideal for time-starved small business owners!
Of course, if this isn’t your thing, there’ll be plenty of time for our usual sociable conversations.
Order lunch at the bar as you arrive. Speed networking at 12.30. Food will be served at 1pm. Please leave a comment on the blog if you’re attending.
